“Billy Bragg has been described by The Times newspaper as a ‘national treasure’. In the two and a half decades of his career Bragg has certainly made an indelible mark on the conscience of British music, becoming perhaps the most stalwart guardian of the radical dissenting tradition that stretches back over centuries of the country’s political, cultural and social history.” – Official Site
Bragg was part of a punk rock band called “Riff Raff” in the late 1970s, who released a few indie singles before the band broke up in 1981. After a very short tour with the British Army, Bragg decided to embark on a solo career in music, and finally released his first solo album in 1983. Since his first solo album, Bragg has released a total of 12 albums, the most recent, “Mr. Love and Justice,” was released in March of this year. Bragg’s music is often reflective of his involvement with grassroots political movements.
Billy is a talented guitarist with his own unique style, but the power of his music lies with the lyrics. With his musical influences ranging from punk to folk, his sound is a distinct blend that is sure to please. We are very excited to present Billy Bragg for the first stop of his tour! It is sure to be an unforgettable night at The State Theatre!
The Watson Twins
The Watson Twins, Chandra and Leigh, from Louisville, Kentucky, discovered their love and talent for music and harmonizing while singing for their church choir at a young age. They decided to uproot themselves from their southern home and head to Los Angeles in 1997 in order to pursue their music. After finding themselves amidst a good group of fellow musicians, they formed a popular local band, Slydell. In 2006, they teamed up with Jenny Lewis and released Rabbit Fur Coat, which became known, nationally and internationally, through their global touring and appearances on late night talk shows, such as Conan O’Brien, David Letterman and Jimmy Kimmel. After self-releasing their own album, Southern Manners, they reached a great moment when their song “Time of My Life” was featured on the hit show Grey’s Anatomy. Their latest release, Fire Songs, which was released this year, showcases their amazing raw vocals and exceptional harmonization that appeals to a wide range of listeners, from indie-rock to folk to alternative-country.
