Jerry Zolten and Richard Sleigh have been making music together under their guise as The Jivebombers for more than 40 years.

Sleigh is one of the premier musicians in the region, an ace at what he calls “Hot Rod Harmonica,” as in both building and playing them. Sleigh’s stock-in-trade runs the range of American Roots Music from Chicago and Delta Blues to Celtic, Rock-a-Billy, and Swing. He has performed with Bo Diddley and Taj Mahal among many, and created music for theatre productions, movie soundtracks, and numerous recording sessions. Richard Sleigh is also an official Hohner Affiliated Customizer now building his own version of the Hohner Marine Band Deluxe harmonica as his new standard bearer.

Zolten has carved out a unique niche as a university professor, roots music author and producer, musician, and fanatic record and ephemera collector. He contributed to Ken Burn’s PBS documentary Country Music, co-produced and narrated the public radio program Time to Lay It Down: The Soundtrack of the Vietnam War, appeared in the documentary films The Ballad of the Dreadnought and How They Got Over: Gospel Quartets and the Road to Rock ‘n’ Roll, and collaborated on the album Chimpin’ the Blues with cartoonist Robert Crumb. As a musician, Zolten has opened for Janis Joplin, performed with Bo Diddley, and worked regionally with the R&B group Code:Blue.

As the Jivebombers – a name they “borrowed” from a classic 1950s R&B group – Richard Sleigh and Jerry Zolten perform an acoustic mix of swing, blues, folk, and rock-a-billy.
