The State Theatre is committed to sustainability practices through the integration of our #SustainTheState Program. #SustainTheState’s mission is to enable artists and audiences to experience, appreciate and embrace the performing arts in a manner that ensures that future generations have the same opportunity. Sustainability at The State Theatre is comprised of a diverse array of project initiatives. Our current projects include Dispose Responsibly, Hydrate the State, Farm-to-Theatre, and several other sustainability initiatives. Please consider donating to our sustainability fund!
Dispose Responsibly is our ongoing, comprehensive recycling and composting program in partnership with the Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority. The mission of this project is to educate and enable The State Theatre staff and patrons to recycle, compost, and dispose of waste efficiently, properly, and responsibly. During your visit to our theater, you will notice that we provide our patrons with three options at each waste station located throughout the theater; compost, recycle, and landfill. Please note that our beer cups and popcorn bags are now compostable and should be placed in the compost bins after use. We’d like to thank Centre County Recycling and Refuse Authority as well as New Leaf Initiative for donations to make this program possible!
Fun fact: From January 2016 to current date, our waste stream efforts have diverted 18,472 lbs of compostable trash from landfill!
Hydrate the State
Hydrate the State’s mission is two-fold; (1) reduce the amount of single-use plastic that The State Theatre is producing and (2) provide patrons with cool, filtered water to stay hydrated throughout their visit. We are very excited to announce that our limited edition #RockNRefill Nalgene water bottles are here! Help us reduce single-use plastic waste, raise money for our Sustainability Fund, and bring home a piece of The State Theatre by making your donation today. Bottles are available in exchange for a $15 donation; proceeds will benefit The State Theatre’s Sustain The State sustainability program. Patrons can bring their reusable water bottles into The State Theatre empty and will be able to fill them at the water filling station in the lobby. We would like to thank Reverb and Nalgene for their #RockNRefill partnership in the creation and implementation of these bottles. Get yours today while supplies last. Bottles can only be purchased in-house at The State Theatre at 130 W College Avenue during Box Office hours and events! For more information, please call (814) 272-0606. Follow us on Instagram at @thestatetheatre_pa & show us your favorite places you take your bottle – Tag #TheStatePA & #RockNRefill and we’ll feature you on our account!
